About us

Walking for Wellness is a listed support provider for Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK

Walking for Wellness offers people with memory issues, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of dementia, opportunities to continue their love of walking – whether it’s around a park or a 5 mile journey in the countryside. You can choose between a long walk and a short coffee or short walk and a long coffee!

Walks take place either in small groups of 2 or 3 or individually when this is more appropriate or preferred. Activities usually last between 2 – 3 hours but this includes transportation and a break at a café.

Participants are collected and returned home and supported with their individual needs. Activities take place Monday to Friday (weekends by negotiation) and you can decide how many sessions you wish to do per week.

We also do other activities (especially when the weather is bad!) such as visiting places of interest, museums, social events etc. Individuals have also been supported in following their other interests such as playing table tennis, walking football, cycling, going to the gym, and fishing…

The service is open to people living with Alzheimer’s, or other forms of dementia and memory issues, who live in Stockport and surrounding areas in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, and Derbyshire. Carers can also use the service to provide respite breaks.

TESTIMONIAL (3)

“Ian has been supporting David since April 2017. He presents as extremely personable, willing to listen and tailor activities to the individuals needs. As David’s carer I know that Ian is reliable and tries to ensure that he undertakes interesting activities with him, for example, walking, fishing and visiting the different museums. When we have had to cancel at very short notice Ian is very understanding of the position we are in.

David describes Ian as having a good sense of humour, is reliable and flexible in that he will match the activity to his needs on the day. David says that he feels comfortable with Ian and (health permitting) looks forward to time away from me and the home!”. Shirley – David’s partner. (Cheadle)

TESTIMONIAL (4)

“Since my diagnosis with Early onset Alzheimer’s I was feeling low and struggled with social interaction. I was recommended to Ian as a Personal Assistant and now feel much more in control of my life. I am more confident and feel a purpose to get up every day. Ian offers a variety of activities to get involved with and I enjoy the interaction with other people and carers. Even my wife has noticed a difference in my attitude and positivity towards life”. Colin (Hazel Grove)
